Chapter 12 SJC
"Gu Yan."
Wrapped in a thin blanket to cover his fair skin, Shen Jinnian crouched beside Gu Yan, looking completely resentful.
"Why didn’t you tell me earlier that you did a full house cleaning this morning?"
Not only did he clean everything, but he also washed all the clothes.
Gu Yan paused from scrubbing and asked seriously, "Did you ask?"
Shen Jinnian: "..."
Well, no, he didn’t.
"Don’t you have a dryer?" Shen Jinnian glanced at the clothes hanging on the balcony. It seemed like he really didn’t.
He frowned, troubled. "Now that my clothes are washed, what am I supposed to wear today?"
"If you don’t mind, you can lie in my bed and cover yourself with a blanket," Gu Yan suggested as he glanced at the sun shining brightly outside. "The clothes should dry in half a day."
"That’s too much. I’m not an Omega." Why act like they needed to be so cautious?
"Mm." Gu Yan replied lightly.
His gaze briefly swept past Shen Jinnian’s chest—fair skin, soft and smooth—before quickly looking away.
A quiet chuckle escaped his lips as he lowered his head to continue washing.
Shen Jinnian instantly felt alarmed.
Gu Yan rarely laughed aloud. Whenever he did, it was never a good sign.
He hurriedly looked down, following the direction of Gu Yan’s earlier gaze. Then, he spotted it—at some point, the blanket had slipped open at the neckline, exposing just a bit too much right in front of Gu Yan.
In a flash, he sat up straight, pulled the fabric tightly around himself and made sure that he was completely covered.
Flustered and indignant, Shen Jinnian snapped, "Gu Yan, you’re disgusting."
"You’re not an Omega." Gu Yan, still scrubbing clothes, didn’t even bother looking up as he countered.
"Being a pervert has nothing to do with being alpha, beta or omega!" Shen Jinnian’s face turned bright red, whether from anger or embarrassment, it was hard to tell.
"Be careful, or I’ll report you to the Omega Association. They’ll blacklist you, and you’ll never get married!"
Gu Yan wrung the water out of the shirt in his hands. "High-ranking Alphas without partners are eventually matched with suitable candidates for marriage. Who knows, the system might just pair me with you."
"Dream on! A double S-class Alpha like me would never marry another Alpha!"
Shen Jinnian scoffed, thinking Gu Yan was delusional.
Gu Yan raised an eyebrow slightly, staring at him with a calm but unreadable gaze. "You don’t know? With the declining marriage rate, our country no longer restricts AA marriages."
Shen Jinnian got pale. "...I’d rather have a sham marriage with a stranger than marry someone like you!"
With that, he huffed, got up, and stomped off to the bedroom. He didn’t forget to slam the door behind him—hard.
Gu Yan's expression instantly faded, and he lowered his long eyelashes to cover the flash of disappointment and depression in his pupils.
He turned his back to the bedroom and gripped the wet shirt in his hands tightly.
The veins on the back of the man's hand bulged, and his arm trembled slightly as he carefully lifted Shen Jinnian’s shirt. Slowly, he brought it closer and took a deep breath.
The scent of the laundry detergent had erased most of the original pheromones, leaving only the faintest trace of strawberries lingering. Barely there—yet to him, it was still enough to make his heart waver.
However, highly compatible pheromones, even if there was just a trace of it, had a bewitching effect on their partners, making them sink in without any defenses.
“..mhmm..”
Gu Yan's cheeks were flushed red, his whole body was hot, and he uncontrollably emitted ambiguous pheromones of courtship.
The cedar scented pheromones spread wildly through the entire apartment, invading every corner until it seeped through the door cracks into Shen Jinnian’s room.
Shen Jinnian covered his nose and let out a loud sneeze.
Gu Yan took advantage of the fact that Shen Jinnian hadn’t started venting his anger or cursing and quickly restrained his pheromones. He wrung out Shen Jinnian's shirt and hung it on the balcony, right beside his own, which was one size larger.
Somehow, it created an inexplicable sense of married life.
Gu Yan lingered for a moment before shutting the balcony door and heading to the kitchen. He sorted through the groceries he had bought that morning and took some meat out of the fridge to defrost.
He prepared a few mildly spicy dishes based on Shen Jinnian’s hometown flavors and stayed busy until 1 o’clock in the afternoon when he finally set the table.
After taking off his apron, he went to knock on the bedroom door.
After a long time, Shen Jinnian did not respond. He was worried that the last incident would happen again, so he quickly took the key to open the door and went in to check.
As soon as he stepped in, he saw Shen Jinnian curled up with his pillow, deeply asleep.
The usually sharp-tongued, feisty little Alpha looked surprisingly docile in his sleep. It looked like he was feeling a bit too hot in his sleep. His tender face was flushed.
His blanket was a complete mess, it barely managed to cover his stomach out of pure genetic instinct.
Gu Yan couldn’t understand how an Alpha could look this fair and delicate, with pheromones that smelled like strawberry ice cream. He looked like a plump little mochi.
Gu Yan looked at him for a while before coming back to his senses. He whispered to him, "Shen Jinnian."
Shen Jinnian was sleeping soundly. After being disturbed, he just murmured something and turned over.
"Mmh… don’t bother me…"
His blanket slid off completely, revealing the snug fit of his thin shorts against his body.
Gu Yan swallowed hard and kept his expression neutral as he carefully pulled the blanket back up. He covered him securely before daring to pat his shoulder.
"Shen, it’s time to eat."
Still half-dreaming, Shen Jinnian burrowed his head into the blanket, murmuring sleepily,
"Auntie… you and the baby eat first…"
Gu Yan’s brows instantly furrowed, and he narrowed his eyes.
Baby?
He had already felt something was off when Shen Jinnian freaked out at the baby store last time. Had he secretly had a child with an Omega while Gu Yan wasn’t looking?
Gu Yan’s face turned pale. His hand trembled slightly as he smacked Shen Jinnian harder.
"Wake up. It’s time to eat."
The person on the bed was so angry that he shot up in bed in one swift motion, ready to unleash a string of curses—
But the moment he saw Gu Yan’s cold, unreadable face in front of him, the words got stuck in his throat.
Gu Yan repeated evenly, "Get up and eat."
Shen Jinnian came back to his senses and scratched his head. His messy hair made him look less distant: " "Wow, so generous? Even treating me to lunch?"
"It’s basic courtesy to offer lunch to a guest," " Gu Yan squatted down and put the new slippers he prepared in front of the bed, perfectly positioned for him to slip on easily.
Shen Jinnian clicked his tongue. "Thanks, but I’m not hungry."
He slid into the slippers. "Are my clothes dry yet? I’m heading home."
Gu Yan tilted his chin toward the balcony.
Shen Jinnian followed his gaze and immediately saw his shirt, still visibly damp—at most, it had stopped dripping.
He frowned. "Then is your shirt dry? Lend me one. I’ll transfer you the money later."
He needed to leave soon. The kid was still hiding in Chen Han’s dorm. If he stayed too long, someone might find out.
Gu Yan shook his head. Thankfully, he had just sprayed his own shirt with water from a small spray bottle. "No, still wet."
Shen Jinnian sighed. "Then I’ll just order new clothes online."
Gu Yan watched him smoothly place an order for a full outfit. He hesitated before finally breaking his silence.
"In a hurry to get home and take care of the baby?"
Shen Jinnian looked like he was struck by lightning. He jolted upright, his entire body tensed up. He looked like he was facing a formidable enemy.
Wrapped in a thin blanket to cover his fair skin, Shen Jinnian crouched beside Gu Yan, looking completely resentful.
