Chapter 41 SJC

Shen Jinnian had to report back to school today, so he didn’t waste too much time on Gu Yan.

After a quick breakfast, he grabbed his books and called a cab.

What he didn’t expect was to run into the very person who’d disappeared early this morning—Gu Yan—right at the school gates.

The man had changed clothes, but with that tall frame and stunning looks, he still effortlessly drew Shen Jinnian’s eyes.

Gu Yan clearly noticed him too. After swiping his ID, he walked straight over.

Shen Jinnian’s heart skipped a beat from panic.

He quickly turned around and pretended not to see him, hurrying away.

But his legs were no match for Gu Yan’s. After a few steps, he was already caught up.

Gu Yan even called out directly, “Shen Jinnian, why are you walking so fast?”

A few nearby students had already turned to look, and Shen Jinnian’s desire to avoid suspicion shot through the roof.

He picked up the pace, widening the gap between them. “What do you want?”

“Have you eaten?” Gu Yan asked, calm as ever.

“Yeah, Auntie made seafood congee.” Shen Jinnian pretended not to know who actually cooked, hoping to see some disappointment on Gu Yan’s face.

But Gu Yan didn’t look the least bit bothered.

There was even a hint of amusement in his voice. “Was it good?”

This was a trap.

Shen Jinnian wasn’t stupid enough to fall for it.

The fact that Gu Yan even asked meant he saw through his little act.

Whether he said it was good or bad—Gu Yan would get what he wanted.

“You didn’t get to eat it, so what’s the point of asking? Think it'll help with the cravings?”

While talking, Shen Jinnian had already reached his classroom.

Afraid Gu Yan would follow him in, he held out a hand to block him. “Gu Yan, your class isn’t here.”

Gu Yan had gone back earlier to change clothes and had come late because of it, so he really didn’t have time to enjoy watching Shen Jinnian get flustered.

“Thanks for the reminder.” Gu Yan leaned down slightly, lowering his voice right by Shen Jinnian’s ear. “I’ll come to Teacher Shen for a quiz next time.”

He didn’t say anything inappropriate, really.

But the posture—way too suggestive.

Before Shen Jinnian could stomp on his foot, Gu Yan had already slipped away, waving goodbye.

The other students had clearly seen them together. Small groups of Omegas had already started whispering among themselves.

Chen Han, who was saving a seat in the last row, looked like he’d seen a ghost.

He had a full view of everything at the door.

Wide-eyed, he asked in disbelief, “Why’s your face so red? Did you start dating?”

“Are you insane?” Shen Jinnian’s foot, which missed Gu Yan, landed squarely on Chen Han’s leg.

“You two have been leaving and showing up to school together—it’s really suspicious.”

Shen Jinnian rubbed his cheek. It was a little warm, but not from embarrassment. “Then back when you used to walk to school with me, were you secretly in love with me?”

Chen Han immediately deflated.

He slumped over the desk like a wilted eggplant and blinked pitifully at Shen Jinnian’s profile.

“If I had a crush on you, would you marry me?”

“?”

Shen Jinnian’s face went dead serious. “Are you seriously brain-damaged?”

What the hell.

Why does everyone want to marry him?

Did he bind himself to some Charm System without knowing when?

“Did I unknowingly bind myself to some kind of ‘Irresistible Charm System’?”

Chen Han rolled over and changed from lying sideways to lying face-down, burying his face into the wooden desk.

"My family urged me to go on a blind date." Chen Han wanted to cry but had no tears.

Shen Jinnian's eyes widened in disbelief. “Aren’t you only 21?!”

Sure, it was the legal age for Alphas to get married.

But to him, Chen Han still felt like the kind of guy who should be in the dorm watching babies.

Chen Han sighed heavily, clearly just as frustrated. “You know how our family business has been struggling lately. My parents are saying I should get engaged to an omega from a decent family to stabilize things. The plan is to marry after graduation.”

In other words, they were trying to squeeze the last bit of value out of their son.

Shen Jinnian felt a little heartache hearing that.

People like them might look glamorous on the outside, but deep down, they were often just pawns with no say in their own lives.

Chen Han took a deep breath with eyes glistening as if he might cry. “Hey, why don’t you just marry me instead? We’ve known each other since we were kids—grew up wearing the same pair of pants. I’d feel way more at ease marrying someone like you.”

Shen Jinnian immediately grabbed Chen Han’s head, cutting him off before he could spout more nonsense. “Keep dreaming.”

Chen Han sniffled, looking aggrieved.

“You rejected me that fast—don’t tell me you’re into someone?” he asked, unwilling to let it go. “Who is it? Which guy swooped in? Gu Yan?”

Shen Jinnian: “…”

He gave Chen Han another swift kick under the desk.

Now he finally understood why Chen Han’s parents were in such a rush to marry him off. With a son like this, tossing him out early might actually extend their lifespan.

Shen Jinnian fully supported their decision now.

“…Oh right!” Chen Han suddenly perked up. “Did you get the DNA results back for your baby?”

Shen Jinnian froze.

His eyes and expression gave away a flash of panic.

He let out a faint grunt. “Yeah…”

“Did you find his parents?” Chen Han pressed.

Compared to talking about himself, he seemed much more excited when it came to Shen Jinnian’s drama—like a gossip-loving spectator.

Shen Jinnian quickly averted his gaze, clearly worried Chen Han would pick up on something.

Without hesitation, he replied, “Still searching. It’s not that fast.”

“I think it’s unlikely,” Chen Han said, analyzing things seriously. “The kid’s been missing this long and there hasn’t even been a single missing persons notice. Odds are, his parents dumped him on purpose.”

Then he tugged on Shen Jinnian’s sleeve again.

“If you really can’t find his parents, why don’t you let me raise him? I’ll say he’s our kid and take him home. That way my dad definitely won’t make me go on blind dates anymore.”

Shen Jinnian stiffened the moment he heard that.

His whole body tensed like a coiled spring, and he instantly jumped two meters away.

He looked at Chen Han like he was some kind of alien with eyes full of horror and disgust.

“Are you insane? Raising someone else’s child?” Shen Jinnian frowned with genuine disdain.

Chen Han hadn’t expected such a dramatic reaction. “I was just trying to help you with the pressure!”

Shen Jinnian: “I don’t need your help.”

“…Why are you reacting like this?”

Chen Han raised a brow, sensing something, and a mischievous smile crept onto his face.

He leaned in closer again, lying on the desk and watching Shen Jinnian’s profile closely.

Lowering his voice, he asked slowly, word by word:

“Don’t tell me… the DNA test actually confirmed he is your kid?”
